I woke up this morning to a Whatsapp message from a cousin getting married tomorrow in a far away land. I’m happy for her. A devout young sister that finally got discovered by a godly brother. God bless them.
As we started chatting, I reckoned there were some prayers bubbling in my heart for her. So I started releasing them and at the end of the prayers I wrote In Jesus Name!
Then and then my flash point began. In Jesus Name! Why didn’t I end it with IJN? I quickly tweeted on my TL – “When ur prayers are not answered don’t blame God o, because He doesn’t know who’s IJN at d end of your prayers. You are on your own! Kontinu”
I nearly wanted to say jokingly, “The 140 character constrains you to shorten God’s name. Isokay! If He shortens your blessing don’t complain o!” Well I decided to tweet another one – “I just hope IJN does not represent d nickname of one terrible demon in Hell, yet to be released else will be glad he’s got many converts! Lol”
To the first tweet someone replied that at a prayer meeting, people even whispered “IJN” at the end of a group prayer meeting. Ha! May I never be in that kind of assembly o!
Have you even noticed on our Group Chats where people greet and pray for birthday celebrants and end it with IJN? Come on! Even children are fast adopting it as a closure to prayers. What’s their own since mummy and daddy, aunties and uncles, friends and enemies are using it? Imagine what we are passing down to the children. They have started adopting IJN as the closure of prayers! Continue. Right before your eyes, sooner or later, they will soon forget what that name means or does!
Brethren, you know what! The Word of God says in Acts 4:12 that, “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”
Philippians 2: 9-11 says, “Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
God didn’t say “IJN every knee should bow”. Well, if demons don’t run from you, you should know that Jesus they know, but IJN they don’t know. Acts 19:15.
Stop trivialising the name that is above all names, all in “IJN”. He is not your homie! No! He is not your buddy! He is your Maker. Or show me one place in the Bible that Jesus funkified His name. If you like, you can gratify yourself by thinking using those words makes you trendy or current with modern day slangs. Continue! Who slang epp?
Don’t let the slang rub you of the power in the name of your Messiah. He is the King of Kings, the Lord of Lords. He is a Holy God, Our Deliverer. There is no other name that can save except the name of Jesus! Give Him His Honour. The honour due to His name.
God bless you. I encourage you to listen to the song below.
